How Language Ninja compares

Duolingo and Babbel are both good products used by millions of people — this isn't a "they're bad, we're good" page. It's meant to help you pick correctly, including telling you when one of them is the better fit. Pricing and feature details change on all of these products; check each one's own site for current numbers rather than trusting a comparison page (including this one) to be perfectly up to date.

The actual difference: content source

Duolingo and Babbel teach from a fixed course — the same lessons for every learner at a given level. Language Ninja generates content per learner: your onboarding profile (name, city, profession, hobbies, goal) is threaded into every sentence, story, and conversation, so a chef in Lima learning Spanish gets cooking and football vocabulary, not generic textbook sentences about a stranger's day. That's a real architectural difference, not a marketing claim — see how it works in the FAQ.

Where Language Ninja is a better fit

  • You want practice tied to your actual life and vocabulary needs, not a fixed curriculum everyone gets.
  • You want a real CEFR-aligned path (A1 through C2) with a milestone test and a certificate at each level, not just a streak counter.
  • You want to hold real conversations — chat, roleplay, debate, mock interview, timed free-talk — with a scored speaking exam, not just tap-the-correct-tile exercises.
  • You want a genuinely free tier with no ads, ever — see Pricing.

Where a bigger, older app might be the better fit

  • Duolingo and Babbel have been refined over many more years, with course content reviewed by larger linguistics teams — Language Ninja's content is AI-generated and can occasionally err (we say this plainly in the FAQ too).
  • If you specifically want Duolingo's gamified streak-and-league social competition format, that's a deliberate design choice of theirs that Language Ninja doesn't try to copy.
  • If you want native mobile apps today — Language Ninja is currently a web app (installable to your home screen as a PWA); native iOS/Android apps aren't built yet.
